Wed Your Way

Mario’s was proud to take part in the W Hotel Seattle’s Wed Your Way wedding showcase event last night by providing all of the menswear for the dashing grooms! Guests enjoyed champagne, cocktails and bites throughout each of the hotel’s amazingly revamped event spaces; from the foyer, to the ceremony space, and all the way to the reception hall, it felt like a true celebration. Engaged couples and wedding planners alike were able to envision their special day and get a taste of just about everything the hotel has to offer. The appropriately named, Wed Your Way, particularly emphasized that you really can now “wed your way” with the new legalization of same-sex marriage (hooray!), which makes the wedding season right around the corner all the more exciting!

A few wedding trends for him this season: Navy is the new black! Let go of the traditional look and embrace some color. If you’re feeling even more daring, don’t just stop at navy; all shades of blue are in for spring. Also, you can forget the tuxedo! Put your money toward an investment piece with a suit you will actually wear again. Whether in a trendy slim-fit with a cropped pant, or a more conventional combination, not only will you be stylish, but your wallet will be thanking you later!

This Thursday and Friday (February 7th & 8th), Jewelry Designer, Sandy Leong will be making a personal appearance (12-4pm) at our Seattle Women’s floor with a special trunk show presentation of her collections!

Sandy Leong’s designs are inspired by her Northwest roots- particularly, the mountains of Portland- and her travels around the world as a flight attendant, but artist at heart. There is a true sense of this inspiration in each of her designs with their natural shapes and movements. Individually handcrafting these pieces in the U.S. from recycled 18-karat gold, Sandy mixes a fun and flirty mood with timeless elegance and sophistication.

Her designs will only be available at Mario’s for these two days, so make sure to check them out while you can!

It’s one of our favorite times of the year; the time that the men’s fall shows introduce us into a new season, new trends emerge, street-style all-stars are out in full force, and anticipation is high for what’s still yet to come. Here are some of our favorite moments from the Fall 2013 shows…

A few weeks ago, as part of our Denim December series we introduced you to Raw Denim. To dig a little further into this subject, we sat down with our Men’s Denim Buyer, Luke, to talk specifically about his love for 3×1 Denim. We’re clear that they’re pretty much the coolest thing on the market, but we wanted to get the scoop on exactly why that is….

It all starts inside their Manhattan SoHo storefront, which doubles as a factory, where Luke works with the experts to customize jeans just for Mario’s. With our shoppers tastes in mind, he first selects from more than 50 of the world’s highest quality selvedge denims, and then chooses every other aspect down to the fit, thread color, and hardware. His creations then come to life in the factory and upon completion are sent to our stores.

Introducing Denim December

As if we needed another excuse to celebrate this already festive holiday season, this month we are doing a social media feature on all things denim at Mario’s! To kick off Denim December, we wanted to give a little background on this versatile fabric that we spend so much of our lives in. The term denim originates from the French town “de Nimes,” where the textile was first produced sometime around the Middle Ages. The fabric’s tough and hard nature earned it the nickname “serge de Nimes,” meaning sturdy. Later, the name was simply shortened to denim.

Individuals of the past recognized the durable cotton twill fabric as useful work-wear apparel, but it was not until the 1930s when American cowboys began appearing in jeans in the movies, that the material was seen as suitable for enjoying leisure time. Denim did not take off however, until the 1950s when it was popularized by the youth and truly made into a fashion statement. Made of 100 percent cotton, denim has a specific weave style that gives it that distinguished, rugged look.

Led by our Creative Director, our visual team works passionately not only to keep our stores looking fresh, but also innovative, unique, and inspired. Most recently, in our Seattle store windows our designer collections have been displayed against a backdrop of renowned graphic design images. Each image is a page out of the The Phaidon Archive of Graphic Design, “a book in a box” made up of five hundred graphic designs that have been created since the inception of print reproduction. As they both communicate through visual stimulation, graphic design together with fashion forms an interesting juxtaposition. The way you dress helps create your personal brand, just as graphic design creates or adds to the value of a larger establishment. Moral of the story: think about the brand you want to present and dress for the part!

And so it begins… the making of our Spring ’13 Forum Magazine

Before our Fall Forum Magazine even hit the shelves, the preparation for our Spring 2013 Forum Book Editorial photo shoot was well underway. Our Design/Brand Director’s imagination has been stewing for months brainstorming locations, color palettes, and beyond, but the fire isn’t fully ignited until the looks hit the runway. Our Fashion Directors and Buyers spend weeks traveling the world to feel out the trends and source the best pieces to bring home to the Northwest, which will eventually breathe life into our editorial and design concept for the Spring season. With their notes in mind, our Design/Brand Director’s will soon present his look & feel for our Spring ’13 Editorial to our buying & marketing teams, and in the meantime, we’re immersing ourselves in all the runway photos, reviews, and trend reports available to gear up.

Our take on Spring ’13: While several current trends will (thankfully) be sticking around- leather, pops of color, suiting, etc- we welcome lots of lace, intricate detailing, geisha (see Prada above), boxy tops, the return of Le Smoking, gestures of early- 90′s grunge, severe minimalism, and the overarching theme of sexy. With this as our starting point, we advise you to stay tuned for more on the making of our Spring ’13 editorial, or what we can show you at least….
